This workshop provides a deep dive into the intersection of sensory processing and play therapy practice. Participants will explore how sensory processing patterns—seeking, avoiding, sensitivity, and low registration—influence a child’s capacity for emotional regulation, engagement, and relational safety. Emphasis is placed on recognizing sensory cues in playroom behaviors, such as pacing, intensity, body movement, and use of materials.

Learning Objectives
- Describe the neurological and developmental foundations of sensory processing and its relevance to play therapy.
- Identify the connection between sensory processing patterns and behavioral or emotional presentations observed in play therapy.
- Demonstrate at least three sensory-based play therapy interventions that promote self-regulation and emotional expression.
- Demonstrate methods for integrating tactile, proprioceptive, and vestibular activities to promote regulation and engagement.
- Select developmentally appropriate sensory play materials for children with diverse needs.
